vessel lamp+sconce

I’ve seen a lot of very cool eco-friendly lighting around the word wide web recently, so I’m contemplating making lighting-themed posts this week. I saw this Vessel by Michelle Kaufmann on Inhabitat. According to the Inhabitat write-up, the sconce can house either a compact fluorescent bulb or LED bulb, which are both cool (temperature) enough to allow you to safely fill the vase with water and flowers or even fish (although it looks rather small to be a comfortable fish habitat). The Michelle Kaufmann website describes it as the first in a series of sustainable lighting designs. They also describe it as “stylish, affordable, eco-friendly lighting” but…I’m not so sure about the affordable part…at least for this young designer who can’t help but think about what the same amount of money spent on a sconce ($295) could do for a low-income family. Don’t mean to be Debbie Downer, that’s just the way my mind works. I do think it’s very cool though and worth mentioning.
